Andretti’s Journey to 2025 F1 Debut: Unveils First Wind Tunnel Model

Andretti Cadillac Formula 1 team is still working hard to make its debut in the 2025 season, and they’ve just revealed the first wind tunnel model. Although the FIA approved Andretti’s bid on October 2, the final approval from F1 and CEO Stefano Domenicali is pending.

Since October, the team has been actively using the Toyota wind tunnel in Cologne and has shared an image of its 2024 model, which might become a part of the full 2025 testing program if the entry is confirmed early on.

Despite not having the official approval yet, Andretti is expanding its design base in Silverstone, with plans to move to a larger nearby facility. Research and development are also in progress at the GM motorsport HQ in Charlotte, involving around 120 people between the UK and the US.

The technical director, Nick Chester, is optimistic about the project and mentions that the design team is working tirelessly, assuming they will get the green light for a debut in either 2025 or 2026.

While there isn’t a specific deadline for confirmation, earlier approval would allow for better planning and recruitment. Chester emphasizes that the longer the confirmation takes, the harder it becomes to create a competitive car for the grid.

To streamline their processes and enhance teamwork, the team is testing a 2024 model, even though it won’t participate in races. This approach helps them learn valuable lessons in terms of geometry, performance, and improving their overall workflow.

In case the team switches to a 2026 entry, they’ll need to adapt to new rules, but a challenge lies in the incomplete regulations for that season as of now. Despite uncertainties, Andretti remains positive about the journey, leveraging their resources, including funding, the Andretti name, and collaboration with GM, to make their F1 debut a reality.
