Hollywood actor Brad Pitt, known for his versatile roles, is gearing up to showcase his racing skills at the iconic Silverstone Circuit during the British Grand Prix weekend. Pitt has been cast as an F1 driver in the film “Apex” and will be filmed racing an adapted Formula 2 machine between practice sessions on Friday.
The 59-year-old Oscar-winner is taking on the role of a veteran driver making a comeback to the grid after a 30-year absence. While some eyebrows have been raised due to Pitt’s age, British champion Lewis Hamilton, who is also involved in producing the film, expressed his excitement. Hamilton commented, “Brad looks like he’s ageing backwards. He looks great for his age. I can’t tell you how excited I am to have Brad Pitt in Formula 1. It’s incredible.”
During the filming at Silverstone, Pitt will be driving a modified car prepared by Hamilton’s Mercedes team. While he will be alone on the track, the assistance of computer-generated imagery will create the illusion that he is racing alongside this season’s grid.
The film crew will also be on the grid before the main race on Sunday. Hamilton, known for his dedication to authenticity, has been actively involved in the preparations to ensure the film captures the essence of the sport.
Speaking about the upcoming project, Hamilton shared his excitement, saying, “It is massively exciting to know that it is all coming together, and we are starting to film this weekend. It’s nerves because we have been working on it for so long, and we want people to love it and feel that we captured the essence of the sport.”
Hamilton further revealed that he had spent time with Pitt at a track in California, helping him learn about race-driving and immerse himself in motorsport.
