Germany to Host EURO 2024: Key Details

Germany has been selected to host EURO 2024, the 17th edition of the UEFA European Championship. The decision was made at a UEFA Executive Committee meeting in Nyon on September 27, 2018. Türkiye was the only other country bidding for the tournament. This will be the first time Germany hosts the championship since reunification, although West Germany hosted it in 1988. The 2006 FIFA World Cup also took place in Germany.

Tournament Dates and Format

EURO 2024 will run from June 14 to July 14, 2024. The group stage will be from June 14 to June 26, followed by the knockout stage starting on June 29. As the host nation, Germany will play in Group A and kick off the tournament against Scotland on June 14 at the Munich Football Arena.

The tournament will follow the same format as EURO 2020. The top two teams in each of the six groups will advance to the round of 16, along with the four best third-placed teams.

Final Match Location

The final match will be held at Berlin’s Olympiastadion on Sunday, July 14, 2024.

The official match ball for EURO 2024 is named FUSSBALLLIEBE, meaning “love of football” in German. It features advanced technology and was unveiled in November 2023.

The official mascot for EURO 2024 is a teddy bear named Albärt, chosen by a vote among UEFA.com users and schoolchildren across Europe.

Volunteer Program

Over 146,000 football enthusiasts applied to volunteer for EURO 2024, and 16,000 volunteers from 124 nations were selected. Volunteers will help with various tasks and represent Germany in the ten host cities.
