Lionel Messi Set to Depart PSG: A New Chapter Begins

PSG manager Christophe Galtier has confirmed the departure of Lionel Messi from the French club this summer. As Messi’s contract expires at the Parc des Princes, it was unlikely that he would extend his stay. Galtier announced the news during a press conference, expressing his privilege of coaching the greatest player in football history. Messi’s final game for PSG will be against Clermont at the Parc des Princes.

After his successful tenure at Barcelona, Messi joined PSG in 2021 due to financial difficulties faced by his former club. During his time at PSG, he contributed to two Ligue 1 titles and the French Super Cup, scoring 32 goals and providing 35 assists in 75 appearances across all competitions.

However, this season presented challenges for Messi. He faced criticism from PSG supporters upon his return from the World Cup, where he helped Argentina win against France. Additionally, he was suspended after an unsanctioned trip to Saudi Arabia, leading to protests outside his residence and the club’s headquarters in Paris.

As the 35-year-old forward contemplates his future, Barcelona has emerged as a potential destination. Former teammate and current Barcelona coach Xavi has confirmed discussions with Messi, expressing his belief that the Argentine would fit perfectly into their tactical plan. Other reports suggest interest from Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal, with rumors of a significant contract offer. Premier League clubs have also been linked with Messi, although he previously expressed a desire to retire at Barcelona.
