Carlos Alcaraz Wins First Roland Garros Title

Carlos Alcaraz triumphed over Germany’s Alexander Zverev in a thrilling final at the Roland Garros 2024, winning 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2. This victory marks the 21-year-old Spaniard’s first title on the Parisian clay, adding to his impressive collection of Grand Slam victories, which includes the US Open in 2022 and Wimbledon in 2023. With this win, Alcaraz has become the youngest player in history to win Grand Slam titles on all three surfaces.

For the 27-year-old Zverev, this was his second Grand Slam final. He previously lost to Austria’s Dominic Thiem in the 2020 US Open final.

The tension of the high-stakes match was evident from the start. Zverev began with two double faults and quickly changed his racket, but it didn’t prevent him from losing his serve in the opening game. Alcaraz also struggled to control his nerves initially but managed to break Zverev’s serve in the fifth game and solidified his lead, ultimately winning the first set 6-3.

The second set saw Zverev find his rhythm, winning five consecutive games to take the set 6-2. His improved serve was crucial, winning 16 of 20 points on his first serve. In the third set, Zverev maintained his momentum and won 7-5, despite Alcaraz’s strong start.

Determined not to let the match slip away, Alcaraz came back fiercely in the fourth set, breaking Zverev twice and securing a 6-1 win. Despite some physical issues that required medical attention, Alcaraz dominated the set and set the stage for a decisive fifth set.

In the final set, Alcaraz’s resilience shone through. He broke Zverev’s serve early and maintained his lead, eventually winning 6-2. The match, which lasted 4 hours and 19 minutes, ended with Alcaraz joining the elite group of Roland Garros champions.
